Day IV

1. SB page 38-39 # 1-5 - try to prepare as many expressions as possible. In writing. 2-minute or 1,5-minute expressions.

Exercise 2. Think of an appropriate answer to each of these questions. Make sure you use a suitable tense. Practice asking and answering.

1 - Are plastic goods popular in your country? Why? / Why not?

2 - What do you think are the benefits of having a mobile phone?

3 - How important do you think packaging is for food and other goods?

4 - Is there much pollution in your country?

5 - Do you do anything to try and reduce the amount of pollution?

Exercise 3. Look at this card. Then listen to the talk by a native speaker of English, and notice how much she says about each point on the card.

Describe an occasion when you were pleased that an object was made of plastic. You should say:

  • what the object was
  • how you were using it
  • what happened
  • and explain why you were pleased that the object was made of plastic.

Notice that the examiner asks one or two questions after the talk. These should be answered briefly.

Exercise 4. Now read this topic card, and spend one to two minutes planning a talk. Make notes if you want to. Then speak for one to two minutes.

Describe an occasion when you couldn't pay for something you wanted. You should say:

  • what you wanted to pay for
  • why you weren't able to pay
  • what you did
  • and explain how you felt about the situation.

When you have finished speaking, think of short answers to these questions.

  • Do you think other people would feel the same in that situation?

  • Have you had a similar experience since then?

Exercise 5. Look at these questions and make sure you understand them. Then listen to the answers and assess them.

  1. Could you describe how people use plastic credit cards?
  2. Can you contrast carrying credit cards with carrying cash?
  3. Can you identify ways in which credit cards have changed our spending habits?

Now answer these questions.

  1. How would you account for the popularity of credit cards?

  2. Can you outline the methods used to encourage people to borrow money?

  3. Can you suggest ways of educating people about the dangers of borrowing a lot of money?

  4. Could you speculate on whether people will change their attitudes towards borrowing money?

  5. Could you outline changes in the types of goods and services available in your country?

  6. How would you assess the impact on our lives of having a greater choice of goods?

 

2. Write an essay on the topic: What are the most effective methods of disposing of garbage?

3. Prepare 2-minute talks on the topics below.

Describe a natural area near where you live that you think is worth protecting. Speak about:

• what its important natural features are

• what environmental problems it faces

Day V 

1. Rad the second model answer to the questions raised in the essay topic at this page and write your own essay on the topic: The government should make more efforts to promote separate waste collection. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion. Give reasons for your answers and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

2. WB page 12 - 13 - do all the tasks, prepare the reteling of the text on page 12. USe: - the text under consideration highlights the new technology of .../a technology dubbed as (получившую название) .... / that will allow us to V1 - It also outlines/encapsulates its benefits   and explains / elaborates on how it works - with the help /aid of ... we will be able to V1  

Make an audio recording with your retelling, send it to me. In the end of it, express your attitude to it.

Day VI

1. Do listening and reading tasks at https://www.ielts-exam.net/practice_tests/35/. As many as you can. Hit "show answers" to check yourselves and report to me on the number of mistakes you made. Prepare the retelling of one of the text that you loked most. Advice: When doing the reading, open the text in a separate window to see both the questions and the text. Remember to go over the questions first to anticipate the answers.

2. In the book "Check you English vocabulary for IELTS"  do tasks on page 73 

Day VII

1. Prepare 2-minute talks on the topics below. Send to me for a check in writing. You may want to use linking phrases to sound more logical.
