Take an Interview — Cooking Methods, Recipes, and Food Choices
An interviewer will ask you questions. Answer the questions and be sure to say as much as you can in the time allowed.
No time for preparation will be provided. You will have 45 seconds to answer each question.
You have agreed to take part in a research study about cooking habits, recipes, food ingredients, street food, and dining choices. You will have a short online interview with a researcher. The researcher will ask you some questions.
Interviewer: Thank you for speaking with me today. I’m conducting a study about how people prepare food at home. [2-second pause] To begin with, which cooking methods do you use most often, and why do you prefer them?
What I particularly like about steaming is that it allows me to cut down on oil and preserve nutrients better.
Interviewer: Some people follow recipes very closely, while others prefer to improvise and change ingredients as they cook. Which approach do you usually take, and why?
Once I have got used to making a dish from scratch, I find it easier to improvise and substitute individual ingredients.
Interviewer: Nutrition labels sometimes show large amounts of added sugar, salt, saturated fat, or highly processed ingredients. How much attention do you pay to such ingredients when choosing food?
What I tend to look out for most is added sugar, the amount of salt and saturated fat, and the overall nutritional value of the product.
Тот факт, что еда содержит сахар или жир, не обязательно означает, что от неё нужно полностью отказаться; многое зависит от количества и частоты употребления.
The fact that a food contains sugar or fat does not necessarily mean that it should be avoided completely; a lot depends on the amount and how often it is eaten.
Однако если сахар находится в самом начале списка ингредиентов, для меня это тревожный сигнал, и я стараюсь сократить потребление такого продукта.
However, if sugar appears near the top of the ingredient list, I see it as a red flag and try to cut back on that product.
Interviewer: Street food can be inexpensive, convenient, and culturally interesting, but customers may know very little about how it was prepared. What do you look for when deciding whether street food is worth trying?
The busier a stall is, the more likely it is that there is a high turnover of food and the ingredients remain fresh.
Даже если блюдо выглядит аппетитно, я бы не стал(а) рисковать, если оно плохо прожарено или хранится неправильно; в такой ситуации я предпочитаю доверять своей интуиции.
Even if a dish looks appealing, I would not take the risk if it is undercooked or stored improperly; in that situation, I prefer to trust my gut.
Interviewer: When dining out, some people choose mainly on the basis of taste and price, while others pay close attention to ingredients, cooking methods, and nutritional value. How do you personally judge whether a restaurant meal is a good choice?
When deciding what to order, I take into account not only the taste and price but also the ingredients in the dish, the cooking method, and the portion size.
Если блюдо, вероятно, содержит много сладкого или жирного соуса, я могу попросить подать соус отдельно.
