At the Fairground

1. That evening, David came home and walked into the kitchen.

2. ‘Hi, Ali,’ he said, and put his      round his wife.

3. ‘Hi,’ answered Alison.

4. She looked behind David carefully and then smiled.

5. ‘Oh good! No Dr Bean! I didn’t like having that man in our house, dear.’

6. ‘Ah … he isn’t here now … but I’m sorry, dear … he’s coming,’ said David.

7. ‘What? Jennifer! Kevin!’ Alison shouted. ‘It’s Plan B!’

8. ‘What’s Plan B, Ali?’ asked David.

9. ‘Plan B is this, David,’ Alison said. ‘The children and I are not going to stay in the same house as Dr Bean.

10. He’s too strange!

11. He     !

12. He throws sweets up in the air and catches them      his mouth!

13. He broke my best picture!

14. He’s a very dangerous little man!

15. We’re going to my mother’s for the weekend!’

16. ‘But, Ali, wait a minute …’ David cried.

17. But he was too late.

18. Alison and the two children were in her car.

19. He watched them drive away.

20. ‘Oh no!’ he thought. ‘Dr Bean will be here all weekend, and I’ll have no help from anybody!’

21. The next day was Saturday and Mr Bean wanted to see Los Angeles.

22. When he got into David’s car, he took out his camera.

23. ‘Great!’ he shouted     . ‘I’m going to enjoy today!’

24. David drove through the city and Mr Bean took photos of everything and everybody – people, buildings, policemen, dogs, trees, flowers.

25. He was very busy!

26. Then he put the camera up in front of David’s face and took some photos of him too.

27. ‘Stop that!’ shouted David. ‘It’s dangerous! I’m trying to drive!’

28. In the afternoon, they stopped at a      in Santa Monica, near Los Angeles.

29. There were      and sweet shops and people in funny hats.

30. Mr Bean bought an ice-cream and a hat.

31. ‘Oh, this is wonderful!’ he shouted, and he took more and more photos.

32. ‘Look, David, that ride says “REALLY DANGEROUS”. Let’s go on that.’

33. The ride was very exciting.

34. It went up and down very fast.

35. Everybody cried and shouted.

36. David was afraid.

37. ‘That wasn’t really dangerous. It was really     ,’ Mr Bean said at the end.

38. They left the ride and walked      the machine room.

39. Mr Bean saw the computers and machines in the room – and had an idea!

40. ‘David, let’s      that ride again,’ he said. ‘Go and buy some more tickets.’

41. ‘OK,’ said David unhappily.

42. He      and wanted to go home.

43. Mr Bean walked into the machine room.

44. Good, nobody there!

45. He sat down and started to work on the computers!

46. ‘The ride will be “REALLY DANGEROUS” now!’ he laughed.

47. Some minutes later, David and Mr Bean were in their seats again, ready for the same ride.

48. And this time everybody was really afraid!

49. People      of their seats into the air – but Mr Bean enjoyed every minute of it!

50. When they      the ride, he looked at David.

51. David’s face was green.

52. ‘That was great!’ laughed Mr Bean. ‘Those computers are much better now!’

53. But he didn’t see the policeman behind him.

54. Later that afternoon, in the police station, Mr Bean stopped laughing.

55. ‘What did you do to those computers, you stupid little man?’ the policeman shouted. ‘You      a lot of people!’

56. Mr Bean looked down at the floor and said nothing.

57. The policeman walked angrily out of the room.

58. Mr Bean looked up and saw a     .

59. He stood up and started dancing in front of it.

60. Then he made funny faces!

61. But it was a      mirror.

62. In the next room, the policeman and David stood behind the mirror and      Mr Bean.

63. ‘You say he’s a top man from the National Gallery in London?’ asked the policeman.

64. ‘Er … yes,’ said David.

65. ‘And he’s very     ?’

66. ‘Yes … um …’

67. ‘He doesn’t look very intelligent to me,’ said the policeman.

68. ‘He looks very, very stupid!

69. Now, get him      of here! Fast!’
